## Plan the experience

Planning estimates, not a price quote or a deadline. Your version may vary.

Time

Several short conversations and cooking sessions over a few weeks.

Cost

A shared document can be free; ingredients, printing and binding are optional costs.

Where

At home, with relatives in person or over a call.

## Before you start

Start with five recipes rather than every dish anyone remembers. Ask the people who cook them whether you may include their names, photographs and stories. Decide who the first copy is for.

## How you would actually start

- Capture the unwritten parts

Ask a relative to describe or demonstrate one dish. Write down the pan size, approximate servings and what “until it looks right” means. Record substitutions and the occasions when the family made it, not just a list of ingredients.

- Cook from your own notes

Make the dish using only the draft recipe. Mark every point where you have to ask another question. Check those gaps with its original cook; keep different family versions when neither is the single correct one.

- Give the recipes a home

Use a simple document with one recipe per section, a contents page and the contributor’s name. Add a short story beside each dish. Share a draft for corrections before printing or sending the finished file.

## What counts as done

A small, readable cookbook exists and its contributors have a copy. Five usable recipes are a better first edition than fifty incomplete ones.

Preserve the original wording alongside your clarified measurements. “Grandma’s blue mug” can be a memory even when a future cook needs a quantity.

When you finish, mark it fulfilled in [My list](https://significanthobbies.com/bucket-list) . You can remember it in your [weekly journal](https://significanthobbies.com/journal) .
