Plan the experience
Planning estimates, not a price quote or a deadline. Your version may vary.
- Time
- Several sorting and layout sessions; printing adds the provider’s production and delivery time.
- Cost
- A digital book can use tools you already have. Printing, binding and delivery vary by provider.
- Where
- At home with access to your photographs and a backup.
Before you start
Choose a completed year so you can finish now, or decide to collect photographs for the coming year. Gather images from devices and albums without moving your only originals. Ask permission before sharing other people’s private photographs.
How you would actually start
Select by month
Make twelve folders or sections and choose a manageable number of images for each. Include workdays, meals and familiar places alongside celebrations. If a month has few photographs, a short written memory is better than inventing a complete record.
Add names and small details
Write captions while you still remember who was there and why the day mattered. Keep dates approximate when you are unsure. Use a simple repeating layout so the photographs carry the story.
Proof the whole book
Read every caption and check cropping before exporting or ordering a print. Save the final file and a second copy. If printing, check the provider’s preview, paper choices and full delivered price before paying.
What counts as done
A finished digital or printed book tells the story of a chosen year. It can be private and does not need a photograph from every week.
Do not let the perfect selection stall the book. A modest first edition can preserve far more than another unsorted folder.
When you finish, mark it fulfilled in My list. You can remember it in your weekly journal.
