## Plan the experience

Planning estimates, not a price quote or a deadline. Your version may vary.

Time

Short practice sessions over several days, plus time for one finished card.

Cost

A beginner pen and suitable paper, or supplies you can borrow from a class.

Where

A desk where you can sit comfortably and turn the paper.

## Before you start

Choose one style and one tool. Brush lettering and pointed-pen scripts have different techniques, so do not mix tutorials at the start. Find an alphabet and stroke exercise that match the tool you have.

## How you would actually start

- Practise the strokes, not your name

Begin with the basic lines and shapes from your chosen exercise. Use guidelines and leave space between attempts. Keep a dated page so you can see how consistency changes instead of judging every stroke in isolation.

- Build a short phrase

Choose a few words and practise their letters separately before joining them. Check spacing as well as letter shapes. Write the phrase several times on practice paper before using your final sheet.

- Make something to keep or give

Letter a card, a small quotation or a label. Pencil in a light guide if useful and leave generous margins. Keep one early practice page beside the finished piece to show what you learned.

## What counts as done

You can write a short phrase in one consistent style and have used it in a finished piece.

Start with larger letters. Tiny envelopes and elaborate flourishes can wait until the basic strokes feel familiar.

When you finish, mark it fulfilled in [My list](https://significanthobbies.com/bucket-list) . You can remember it in your [weekly journal](https://significanthobbies.com/journal) .
